Birth Order Research Essay

          Does the order in which you are born affect the way you act or behave? Well , the Birth Order Research suggests that it does. I am the oldest child in the family and the BOR doesn’t accurately describe me but it’s pretty spot on. I believe that most of the research is accurate for some people, although everyone is different.

          Some of the examples that the research depicted was based on an academic area.  An example of this is, I’ve always been very advanced. All throughout elementary, I have gotten advanced or proficient test scores. Ever since I’ve been in the seventh grade, I’ve always have been enrolled in honor classes. Now that I’m a sophomore in high school, I am taking AP classes. Another trait listed for first borns, was being reliable. I am a very reliable person. Just the other day my uncle relied on me to attend his customers while he went to go run some errands. He also relies on me to come to work on time. People rely on me to get things done, and I always come through. These are just some traits that do pertain to me.

          On the other hand, there are some traits listed that don’t describe my personality at all. For example the research suggests that first borns are closed-minded, but I’m the complete opposite. I’m very open-minded.  I like to hear new ideas, and try different things. One time my family and I were trying to figure out which restaurant to eat at. We ended up going to a Thai restaurant. At this point, I have never tried Thai food so I didn’t know what to expect. My sister was complaining  about how she didn’t want to eat there, because she said it would be nasty . We both ended up liking it there and now it’s one of our favorite places to go to. If we wouldn’t have tried it we probably would of never ate there, and we wouldn’t even know what we were missing.

          Some of the traits that new borns have are negative. For example one trait that is negative is, being unforgiving. I really am a person who won’t forgive you for a long time. It’s just something that I don’t take lightly. One time, my friend was helping me with a school science project, and right when we were about to finish, he accidentally broke the whole project and I was so mad at him. I ended up not talking to him for about 2 months, but after that I forgave him. Another negative trait is being sarcastic. I get really sarcastic especially if someone is being ignorant, or if they are annoying me.

          There are many traits that depict my personality, but yet there are still some that are way off. I think, for the most part, the order in which you are born does affect your personality and the way you tend to act. The BOR was somewhat accurate for me, but it wasn’t right on the nose. I think it also depends on the person, because everyone is different and one person may think differently than the other. The order in which you are born does affect the way you act.
